I just switched from console gaming to pc gaming and when I played minecraft on ps4 I just started a game and invited my friends but on pc my friends could not join my server so I did some research and found out that many games require you to host your own server. I read about it and you have to change things with your router and so on, I want to play without hosting my own server or pay for servers, now my question is: is it the case for many pc games or just many of the indie games or just minecraft, please helpppp??

Solution
nope, as I said before this is only for poorly-programmed games such as Minecraft. I've only run into 3 games where I've needed to port forward in my times as a PC Gamer. Minecraft, Risk of Rain, and Splinter Cell: Conviction. Every other multiplayer game I've ever played (and I own over 100 games on Steam and GOG) will do it automatically and you won't have to worry about it.

For minecraft you can probably look up a bunch of online youtube walkthroughs on how to do it step-by-step depending on your internet service provider.

minecraft requires you to port forward; many poorly-created games and other indie games (Risk of Rain comes to mind) require this of you to do before you can host servers. Most games do it automatically.

Only the host needs to port forward, or open up a port in their internet for other players to join in from. Anyone who's joining a game does not need to port forward. Therefore, joining a server shouldn't be a problem for you, only hosting.

Yes but that's the problem, I want to play with my friends and only my friends in minecraft and they don't know as much about pc as I do so they will not be hosting servers and I don't want to join someone's server I want to play private with my friends. But do I have to host my own server in huge games from developers like EA, Ubisoft and so on?
