Loving my i7-4790k! Immediately after installation with my nh-d14, Full load on all 4 cores at 4.4GHz turbo would push temperatures to 69 - 72C for short periods. Now after an apparrent settling-in period, similar utilization of the cores leads to max temparatures of around 58 - 62C.The thermal compound was probably somewhat sloppily applied, and has had time to rearrange itself, I'm thinking. And the weather is quite a bit hotter than when I built the system! So much better performance and no dealing with massive excess heat from an AMD system. No need to OC, and HT gives me some of the benefits of 8cores, as well. Money well spent.

With that cooler you can do some slight overclocking to gain a little performance. I do not personally have that cooler but my 4790k is overclocked to 4.71ghz and its max temp spike is 81 while it usually hovers around 74 under full load with Aida64. And I have watercooling to keep it cool but Im sure a H100I could handle that OC

Why overclock such a fast system? So, I gain less than 10% of real benefit, in exchange for added heat and noise? Not worth bothering with. Back when you could overclock every Celeron 400 to 500MHz, that was an overclock worth bothering with. None of today's chips are worth the effort. If you do make the effort, tthen after spending even more money on cooling, your computer sounds like a leaf blower, and in reality, works exactly the same as before. Thanks. No thanks.

What kind of idle temps are you getting?

I used to run AMD almost exclusively, then I built an i5K machine (the one in my sig) when the ol box (FX8350,GTX970) couldn't handle FFXIV as well anymore. I can truly, truly relate. Oh and just OC the damn thing! I did and loving it, temps only went up a couple degrees!
