Is my AMD Turbo Core on or off?

Hi, I have a FX-8320 and a Gigabyte 970A-UD3P. So my situation is this, I enabled Turbo Core in the BIOS but AMD Overdrive says it's disabled. I want that crap DISABLED as I'm overclocking to 4.0 GHz with a Hyper 212 Evo, but disabling Turbo in the BIOS results in a weird boot issue exclusive to Gigabyte AM3+ motherboards. So I turned on Turbo Core (AKA Core Performance Boost on GB mobos) and set its multiplier to x20, which is the same as my CPU's multiplier (4.0 GHz). With this setting, AMD Overdrive says Turbo Core is disabled, but it is actually enabled in the BIOS. My question is, how do I know if my Turbo Core is on or off? Also, is the difference between 3.5 and 4.0 GHz really noticeable in games, especially the CPU intensive ones like GTA V? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Full specs in signature.

Are you OCing with AMD Overdrive or the BIOS?

When you open AMD Overdrive, it overrides MB defaults. You can disable OD there and set the multiplier (it won't let you drag the multipliers very far if OD is on).

And your last question - yes, GTA V is a great game to see the difference in. If you have a good cooler, you can push it even further.

Thanks for the reply. I am overclocking from the BIOS, and I've only changed the multiplier from x17.5 to x20. I haven't touched the voltage, FSB, or anything else. I've just went back to the BIOS and set the Turbo Core (Core Performance Boost) to "auto," but when I open Overdrive, it says Turbo Core is not enabled (I didn't change anything in Overdrive). I've heard enabling Turbo when overclocking will cause it to throttle, but will I be affected with performance drop since Overdrive says my Turbo is disabled.

I see like a 5-7 fps difference in GTA V, so I guess I'll keep the 4.0 overclock.

*Edit: You have the same motherboard as me, and since you have overclocked your CPU and disabled Turbo, do you get the same weird "double booting" issue? When I press my case power button on a cold boot, my PC would turn on for a second with the fans spinning, then it would shutdown for a few seconds, an finally turn back on and proceed to boot into Windows normally. I've heard that this is a known issue with Gigabyte's 970 and 990 chipsets. If you have this issue, do you know of any fix?

Yeah, mine did too, and it annoyed me. Basically it turns itself on to make sure it works at stock settings, shuts off, and then applies the OC settings. I was able to get it to 4.7 via BIOS settings.

Honestly, I'm able to do almost the same overclocks up to 4.5 on-the-fly if I need to bump it up from 3.5 via AMD OD, so I just do that. Simple enough for what I need it for.

Gigabyte really needs to fix this :( So I guess if I leave turbo on in the BIOS but OD says it's off, that means my turbo is really off? Btw, I disabled APM in the BIOS, if that makes a difference.

I'm going to stick to 4 GHz for now as I don't want too much extra heat, at least until summer is gone.
