I'm building a modest gaming computer that I may use for day to day normal stuff sometimes. For more smoother gaming and higher fps.... should I spend more on the cpu or the gpu which one is more important to gaming?

Both are important, there is no correct answer to that. They do different things and should not be compared like so. You don't want either to be too weak, but if you have to choose one to be weaker, choose a weaker graphics card. A graphics card will not bottleneck a processor, but a processor can bottleneck a graphics card while gaming.

When building any gaming PC the most important component of your PC would be your graphics card, that is where most of the workload while gaming will be done. As a general rule your graphics card should be around 40% of the cost of your entire build. I would not worry about the cpu too much. You should not be spending the bulk of your money buying one. It is not nearly as important when it comes to games. The cpu is much more important if you want to run multiple tasks at once or are running powerful software like recording or editing programs. Bottlenecks are not as common as people make them out to be. If you do not believe me just search on Youtube. You will find people playing The Witcher 3 with i3s that cost only $100 with a playable frame rate, you will never see the opposite. You cannot play The Withcer 3 or any graphics intensive game with a weak graphics card. Do not take my word for it, research it yourself.

They're all important, psu, cpu, gpu...you need the right combination of power from the processor so you don't bottleneck the gpu and/or vice versa. But if mainly gaming, then gpu is most important for graphics but again you need a powerful enough processor to not bottleneck.

No this is incorrect. I will fix it for you.

When building any gaming PC the most important component of you PC would be your PSU, that is where ALL of the workload while gaming will be done.

The OP did not ask that. He is asking cpu or graphics card. Everyone knows that if you do not have enough power your PC will not work. He even said he is looking to increase FPS.

You would be shocked at the number of people that will spend over $1000 on a gaming build, and never even think about the power supply until the very end, and then they have no money left, so they buy a $35 power supply that is absolute garbage. Months later, they cannot understand why their entire system is acting like crap...

The power supply is the most important part of your system. How everything else in your case runs, and how long it will last is all depending on your power supply.

Look I never said the psu was not important. I was only trying to help answer his question. I said that when it comes to gaming the graphics card is much more important than the cpu. I did not mean to offend you man. No need to be hostile.

Generally speaking the gpu has more impact in most games. But as games become more demanding, the cpu is becoming just as important. This will depend on the game you plan on playing.

From what I have noticed from the current gen games, they tax both the cpu and gpu a lot, especially open world games like gta 5.
