Bluescreening when overclocking higher than 4.1GHz (FX 6300)

Hey, so I've recently been interested in overclocking my cpu and was looking for an easy method to do it without going into the fairly old gigabyte BIOS and messing something up. Someone told me that AMD Overdrive is a good alternative and I successfully achieved an overclocking of 4.1GHz from the stock clock of 3.5GHz. However when I try anything higher than that, I just get a blue screen.
I'm not an expert in overclocking or anything :p am I doing something wrong? I didnt touch the voltage settings or anything, could that be it? If so , what adjustments do I need to make? :D

Solution
You should use the bios to do an overclock, simply up the voltage to say 1.25v then test the multiplier to 42 = 4.2ghz, then 43, 4.3ghz an so on until you find a rough stable overclock.

Then use a program to stress test your CPU under full load to check for stability, then its a matter of fine tuning the voltage.

just keep an eye on the temps
It could be a number of things:
- inadequate cooling
- weak/unstable PSU for overclocking
- cheap thermals on motherboard

You can try to up the voltage a little bit, but in general 4.1 isn't that high for an FX so I suspect you have one of the above described problems. It also might be that Overdrive is overclocking an component too much causing an unstable system. Overdrive isn't good for overclocking since you can't really control what it is doing.

Ok, thanks- I think the temps should be fine, I'm not using the crappy stock fx cooler :D , I'm using a Coolermaster Hyper 103 I'll read opus on this gogabyte BIOS as I think it's pretty out dated
