I have a Win 7 computer, OEM, for which I thought I had the key code. I did not. Now, I need to buy a new copy of Win7, OEM, in order to get this code. What I want to know is, Will I be able to register the original copy with the new key, without having to reinstall Windows and therefore having to reinstall everything else? Thanks.

Solution
If the original Windows 7 is already installed and presumably working, why do you need the Product Key anyway?

Furthermore, if your Windows 7 was pre-installed by the manufacturer, you will never be asked to enter the Product Key, not even for a Factory Recovery.

Phillip, thanks for the reply. When I had the machine built, I thought I had a win 7 disc that was not installed or registered. I did not pay for the install of Windows on this computer ( which was also not registered because it had not been paid for), because with an OEM disc, I thought I could register it with my numbers. Turned out that the disc HAD been used, and now, every few minutes, the computer freezes, and a window comes up in the systray that says something like "this is an illegal copy of Windows". I am tired of that happening in the middle of typing a sentence, and just want to bring it up out of it's illegality. That's why I need a new registration code. I hope that all makes sense.

It's strictly speaking a "Product Key" you need, there is no registration code that you keep referring to.

Microsoft no longer issues Keys (or installation media) for Windows 7, as far as they are concerned Windows 7 is history.

If you act fast you should still find what you need on your local Amazon website, they sell perfectly legal & official Windows 7 keys, with or without an installation disc. Don't hang about though, stocks are dwindling fast & won't be replaced.
