hello, i'm planning on upgrading in budget build for gaming. i have an ati 7870, a cooler master 550W psu and i need new mobo, cpu & ram (i'm thinking in 8gb):

so watching prices (i live in Argentina) i get to this 2 options (without ram):

all 3 motherboards are asrock, prices are from argentina in our currency:

(a) h81 mobo ($700) + i3-4170 ($1900) = $2600
(b) h81 mobo ($700) + i5-4440 ($3000) = $3700
(c) 970 mobo ($1700)+ fx-6300 ($1700) = $3400

so, considering i'm going soft/medium gaming:
im fine with the i3?
really worth getting the i5?
if i go for the 6300 and do overclock, it outperforms the i5? (extra $800/1000 on cpu cooler)

im most between the i3 and the i5, but have doubts on the mobo

Gaming performance from lowest to highest is (c), (a), (b). You won't notice much performance difference between the i3 and the i5 with your GPU. There are several benchmarks, but this one is interesting because your 7870 definitely is not faster than a GTX 960: http://www.techspot.com/review/972-intel-core-i3-vs-i5-vs-i7/

omg, really thank you for that link!
i am curious about if would happen the same between an i3 41xx and a pentium g32xx with same gpu, but i can't find a similar review as the one you brought..

i imagine that the 4 cores with hyperthreading would make a diference..
