Hello, wondering if anyone could help with my problem that i've got, I have a 500GB WD HDD which is causing me a bit of trouble at the moment.

In the machine (Windows 10) where it normally is it only gets 20mbps read speed which makes starting up very very slow. But I put it into another machine and it was 120mbps read.

I have ran tests on the HDD and it passed so it is healthy and i've also replaced the sata cable.

Any ideas what to try next cheers?

Hi again, mattmill98!

Well, have you tried changing the SATA mode from BIOS (AHCI to IDE or vice versa)?
I think that you can also try resetting BIOS and checking if that will improve the speed then. You can do that either by resetting the jumper on the motherboard or re-seating the CMOS battery. Here's a detailed tutorial that might shed some light: http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Your-BIOS
Keep in mind that this will get your BIOS settings back to factory defaults, though, so you'd need to know how to re-configure them afterwards.

As a last resort, you might want to consider updating BIOS (flashing) but you need to be very careful with it and make sure you refer to the motherboard manual/user guide.

Keep me updated though! :)...
Welcome to the TH community, mattmill98!

I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD HDD's transfer speed. :( However, since you've already changed the SATA cable, I'd recommend you to try switching the SATA port that it's usually connected to on the Windows 10 PC. It's possible that the port itself is faulty, so you should give it a try.
I'd also check your motherboard manufacturer's website for any updates on the SATA/chipset drivers for your model and make sure you've installed those, instead the ones from Windows Updates.

Keep me posted. Hope this helps you! :)
