RAM Speed Question

So I own a Desktop with i7-5820k and 16GB DDR4 Corsair Dominator Platinum 2666mhz RAM. So I the issue is my Memory runs at the speed 2111mhz and even though I placed the speed as 2666mhz in the BIOS (gigabyte g1 gaming wifi is my mobo) but even still the ram speed is used as 2111mhz. Is it that I need to overclock my CPU in order for the RAM Speed to increase or what? Currently im on 0 Overclock for my CPU & my memory [and I do not plan to overclock anything at this point either as I run my CPU on the Stock Fan (well a basic coolermaster fan)].

What does it show in the free app CPU-Z, in the memory tab next to frequency, you may be seeing the default for the mobo which is used by many applications

Well I am not completely sure, it has a couple of frequencies. Here's a SS of what I see.

The highest NB Frequency I saw just a couple of seconds before the SS was taken was 2999mhz.

The DRAM freq shows as 1066 and since this is DDR (DOUBLE data rate) you take true freq (166) x 2 = effective data rate (2133) --- try enabling XMP and select profile 1 which should set your DRAM to 2666

Arm so what do you mean? My bad I don't have much of that overclocking related experience. So am I supposed to go in the BIOS and trigger things or what?

Go into the BIOS and find the DRAM area, DRAM is set to Auto - change to XMP

Thanks dude for you help! It now worked, and just another question, my BIOS also has a Profile2 which sets my RAM to 2888mhz. So is it okay if i overclock my memory to 2888mhz? Since its a 2666mhz Corsair Dominator Platinum, would it be okay to just slight it up a little without any cooling or anything?

You can try it, if it doesn't work will have to back in and reset it. Temps shouldn't vary enough to worry

Thanks, it works! The 2800mhz works fine, and it increased some bench marking score as well!

Great, the 2800 sticks are great, hae a 32GB set on my Z97 - love the bandwidth! and can tell the difference when I stick in slower 2133 or whatever to test sticks
