does my motherboard need a bios update?

on pc part picker it said the motherboard might need a bios update. the word "might" is what worries me the most so will i need an update for this?

motherboard: MSI 970A-G43
CPU: AMD FX 6300

UNLIKELY. The 6300 CPU has been out for a long time. When building, I always update the BIOS as soon as possible just to start out as fresh as possible, but I wouldn't be concerned about that combo.

just check the manufacturer web page on what version is the latest.

Go to your BIOS and see what version you have.

If needed, update

"Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs." that´s the exact sentance of pcpartpicker.

the 970 chipset is older than the 6300, that´s because it´s written that way.

The FX-6300 runs out of the box on the MSI 970A-G43 with its first released BIOS A0

That MSI webpage is confusing, I normally check that type page. It actually doesn't list any BIOS version for any CPU ... I guess you can assume they all work from the start, but there is no guidance on that page.

look at the "Result" Tab on the right of my posted link, there you can see the zip files you need, to run the CPUs in each line.

for example behind the fx6300, there is a zip file named "7693vA0.zip". which means you need at least A0 BIOS to run, which was the first of all BIOS versions in this case.

Another example would be the FX-8140, which would need the A3 BIOS named "7693vA3.zip" to be supported by the motherboard

Secret decoder ring ... not included .... Makes sense though. I wasn't looking closely enough at the ZIP file names. Usually there is a column in the table to "help a feller out" ..
