does my motherboard need a bios update?

on pc part picker it said the motherboard might need a bios update. the word "might" is what worries me the most so will i need an update for this?

motherboard: MSI 970A-G43
CPU: AMD FX 6300

That MSI webpage is confusing, I normally check that type page. It actually doesn't list any BIOS version for any CPU ... I guess you can assume they all work from the start, but there is no guidance on that page.
 


yes MSI is a bit confusing, but if you know where to look, it´s quite easy.

look at the "Result" Tab on the right of my posted link, there you can see the zip files you need, to run the CPUs in each line.

for example behind the fx6300, there is a zip file named "7693vA0.zip". which means you need at least A0 BIOS to run, which was the first of all BIOS versions in this case.

Another example would be the FX-8140, which would need the A3 BIOS named "7693vA3.zip" to be supported by the motherboard

Secret decoder ring ... not included .... Makes sense though. I wasn't looking closely enough at the ZIP file names. Usually there is a column in the table to "help a feller out" ..
