I have an AMD CPU and I wanted to change the thermal paste. When I tried to pull the heatsink it pulled the CPU too....

Now I'm stuck with a heatsink with a CPU attached, and I've tried hairdryer and isopropyl alcohol. I've tried with floss too but there is no space AT ALL between the heatsink and the CPU.

So guys, is there a magical trick I can use, or am I shopping for a new CPU?

Same thing happened to me I went to pull the heat sink and fan off the processor and it stuck to the heat sink.
The processor came free of the socket with the lock in the down position. I ended up taking a very thin scalpel blade and using it to slowly pry
off the processor. luckily no pins were damaged and everything still worked.

Generally there is a metal lever that must be released to lift the CPU off the motherboard. Are you sure what you are trying to remove is the CPU? an empty socket on a motherboard looks like this:

Ensure that it is actually empty, and does not look like this;

If it is actually the CPU that is stuck to the heatsink, then either you have a faulty motherboard where the retaining lever has failed, or you improperly set that lever when installing the CPU (not very likely.). Either way, try continuously pouring some isopropyl alcohol into the joint between the heatsink and the CPU. Hopefully, after a few minutes of doing so the thermal paste will dissolve and the CPU will come free.

I finally did it. I soaked the CPU in isopropyl alcohol for about 15 minutes. After that I tried to pry it up, and it popped right off! Guess all it needed was some soaking time in the alcohol
