Hey,

I'm looking for the cheapest possible parts to play GTA 5 on, even on low settings since I don't really care much about graphics just the story. I already have the game but I get random crashes and sometimes lag even on low settings. Now I know my specs are not good but that's why I'm here.
Anyways, here are my current specs:

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz
GPU: GeForce GT 640
RAM: 4GB
OS: Win7 64-bit
SOUND CARD: NVIDIA High Definition Audio
FREE HARD DISK SPACE: Well over 660GB

And these are the GTA 5 minimum settings (which I all qualify for but the game still crashes and lags):

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
GPU: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
RAM: 4GB
OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)
SOUND CARD: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
HDD Space: 65GB

Now I'm already getting another 4GB of RAM so that I have the recommended 8GB but will that be enough to make the game not lag and crash?

Now the recommended settings go way over my budget (I just want the cheapest possible combinations), but anyways these are the recommended specifications:

CPU: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD7870 2GB
RAM: 8GB
OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
SOUND CARD: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
HDD Space: 65GB

Thanks in advance :)

Your gpu is a little on the low side. Getting the ram might give you enough to not make it lag, if low memory is what your problem is. You'll just have to see on that. I would recommend grabbing a 660 off ebay for <100$. It's a fantastic card and is great if you ever want to sli for cheap.

But would the new 4GB RAM be enough for now (even to decrease the chance of a crash)? Since I'm on a very low budget, and I have found it for €35.

Well it's hard to say as I've never tried to run it with low specs, in my personal opinion I would try to get a better gpu first even if it meant waiting for more money. The new ram definitely wouldn't hurt anything though, and would be worth the shot.

But since my current GPU is the 640 would the 660 make a lot of difference?

Oh ok, I didn't know it was GTX 660, I thought you were just saying about the GT 660. And regarding the graphics, I play on the LOWEST possible settings, windowed mode and on 1024x768, so you can imagine my frustration..... :(
I don't really care about playing on the highest settings because even on low I'm happy with it as far as I can play on my resolution (1600x900). I'll see what I can do about the GTX 660.

Thanks a lot! :)

Also don't forget Gta 5 is undergoing constant updates right now. I couldn't play above 13fps the other day and I have I7, 16gb ram, and OC Gtx780. It's a very optimized game but with all the modding going on they're putting out new anti-modification systems that are slowing performance quite a bit. It could be beneficial to try other games on high settings to see what kind of results you get.

I played Skyrim on medium with only little lag, FIFA 15 not playable, and GTA IV lags miserably.
