Hey, so im planning on upgrading my gpu and cpu to start streaming real soon, currently i have an i3 4130 and a gtx 650 and i use a 500w FSP 80+ PSU. Now the upgrades im planning on are, CPU - i7 4790k, GPU - EVGA GTX 970 SC and my main concern is whether the 500w will be enough or should i spend a bit more to get a 600w to be on the safer side? P.S - I do not plan on overclocking the cpu or the gpu.

P.P.S - My current full specs -

Intel i3 4130 - CPU
Asus H81-M Plus - MOTHERBOARD
8GB DDR3 1600MHz - RAM
1TB SATA III - HDD
GTX 650 2GB - GPU
500w FSP 80+ - PSU
Samsung 24X Dual-Layer DVD+/-RW - OPTICAL DRIVE
CIT Vantage Blue LED - CASE

Thanks :)

as you can see, 500W i enough for a system with that GPU.

HOWEVER, you are going to get a CPU that will be consuming a lot of juice, and on top of that, you will most likely overclock it. I would go with a 650W Tier 1/2 PSU. The rig you are building really, REALLY needs a high end, good quality PSU.

Remember that this will be the heart of you PC. Don't ever slack on it!

choose XFX, seasonic, evga supernova, Flower Power, etc etc......
(what is your current model and brand PSU? full name please?)

Solution
My PC is similar to your suggested set-up (i7 + GTX 970), and draws under 400W according to PC Part Picker. Having said that, having a good-quality power supply is as important as having one capable of outputting sufficient power, as you're less likely to have issues long-term (less likely to provide marginal current or age badly).

Very well, i'll look into buying a new PSU together with the build just to be on the safe side, thanks :)
