Hey guys. I need your help!!

My uncle gave his old pc to me and it's running on Windows XP. I noticed that it is running on Windows XP Professional. On the side of the tower it is written that the version of the XP should be on Home Edition. Is there any way I can turn it back to the version it is supposed to run?

My pc is only dual core. I get the urge to put it back to home edition since home edition is basically used for only having 1 core. And it's an old pc gave to me by my uncle. So the only way I can turn it to Home Edition is by getting the disc and key? You have any links that I can download the key that is trusted and doesnt have malware? thank you for your first repsonse

If you're asking for pirated software no I do not have that, and I don't think Microsoft provides the XP installer anymore since its a dead product. You would need to buy a key or find an old computer you could use the product key from that the computer will be going in the trash.

TBH what you're doing is a waste of time, there is no performance difference you would ever see or notice, and Professional has more features. The base code of the OS is the same its just whether it supports multi core or not. There is literally no reason to go through all the trouble you're trying to go through.

if you have the sticker on the side of the case it should have the key on it. if it does, you can download a copy of xp home and do a fresh install of it using that key.

if it does not have the sticker then you are stuck with the pro version. honestly there is little difference to the editions other than domain login support for the pro version. you can easily turn off a bunch of services and such to make it run like the home edition. all that networking stuff is easy to disable. would be faster than a clean install of home edition. especially if you don't have a valid home key.

there is no way to get a new vaild home key since they stopped selling it long ago. i assume the sticker that says home edition on it also has a key for you to use.

Home edition is only used for 1 CPU not Core, there is a difference. You are trying to do something for no benefit at all, you have it running already, so now you want to basically downgrade it to a lesser version and do all the extra work of finding a disk, re-installing Windows, getting the drivers.
