Okay so this is my first PC build and currently my PC was working fine until I installed portal through steam and I got a blue screen of death whilst playing it. Ever since then I have had massive problems with the computer crashing whenever I try to do anything. When I changed the cables to the hard drive it launched me into the BIOS and without thinking I set the boot settings to auto and now my computer won't even launch into the BIOS I just get a blank screen. Any advice ? It would be much appreciated.

My motherboard is an Asus m5A99x evo r2.0 and my HDD is a western digital 1tb 6gbsata

Ok first thing you want to do is unplug the computer from the wall, then go in and find the CMOS battery (its a little watch battery), remove that battery for like 15 minutes and then put it back in. That will reset your BIOS so at least you'll be able to get back in.

Next is how new is the build? Maybe first try reformatting the computer and re-install windows and see if it works. Something may have gotten corrupted.

make sure the sata cable is on port 0 for the hard drive. some mb have 3 party sata chipset. make sure the sata chipset still set to achi mode. also make sure power plug is connected right on the drive. on the mb check that your running the newest bios file to rule out bios bug.

Ok so thats good, now if you want to do a fresh windows install just put the disc in and let it boot to the CD, then during the install you can delete the old partition and create and format a new one. Before even doing that though double check all your cables make sure all is tight and connected well, memory is seated etc. It sounds like hard drive corruption is your issue, but just to be sure.

Okay so I've done that and I got up to the point where I install windows (using USB because I don't have an optical drive) however for some reason the computer can't find the drivers. It's the same USB that I've used before though -_-

Not sure what you mean, is windows installed and now it can't find drivers? Can you download the drivers you need on another PC and have them on another thumb drive?

I had the ISO image on a flas drive but it couldn't find the files and apparently it couldn't find my hard drive either so I think it's broken because I've changed the cables multiple times and the ports used. And nope. Used to but the house got burgled so gotta wait until I head to a friends house.
