[apologies I should have posted this in the graphics card forum]

Hi,

I have an MSI Gaming 7 Motherboard and an MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4G GPU running on 64 bit windows 10 with latest geforce drivers

I am trying to connect my AudioVideoReceiver/TV as a third output via HDMI from my 980. I have a 1080p BENQ monitor connected via DVI to the 980 which i use as my main monitor, and a smaller Emprex monitor connected via HDMI to the motherboard.

The AVR will eventually serve a projector & TV using it's A/B output options, but at the moment it's just serving a Plasma TV.

however as soon as I plug in the AVR/TV via HDMI on the 980, it takes over as Display 1 and makes my primary monitor becomes Display 2 (see diagram http://oi61.tinypic.com/2w674af.jpg)
(note displays are arranged right to left .. Main Monitor on the right, smaller monitor in the middle, TV on the left which is essentially in a different room)

this starts confusing things such as Win+P (for projector etc)...

if I select "Second Screen only" my desktop swaps sides between my 2 monitors (Display 2 & 3) and the TV signal (1) turns off. This is definitely wrong! (and messes up icons as the resolutions of the screens are different)

If I select "PC screen only" the signal goes to the AVR/TV. it should be going to the main monitor but since my monitor won't stay as Display #1 when i plug the TV in, the signal goes to the AVR/TV instead as #1

("Duplicate" & "Extend" work as they should though as per layout set up in windows display properties 1--3--2)

is there anything I can do with Bios etc to ensure that the HDMI port is not seen as the main display, and instead the DVI port is?

thanks for any advice.

I've been dealing with issues like this trying to setup 4 monitor radiology workstations with dual video cards, only way I found to have the system detect which is display 1,2, etc.. is the order that they get plugged into. This is for systems with the same connection types however, they were all DVI. You may want to contact the video card vendor and ask them this.
