I have two GPU's(EVGA 780ti super clocked and a EVGA 980 classified)
The 980 is giving me a issue that the 780ti does not..
On SOME games with the 980 after i am playing the game for a few minutes i get a black screen
(a pop up say's "nvidia display driver stopped responding and has recovered.") BUT the screen stays black but i still have audio.
I can hear the game but not see it? I then have to re-boot the PC tower and then IF i go back into that game it happens again,
it is not the GPU since i can play a game like watch dogs
maxed for hours without issue on this 980?
Does anyone know if this is a timeout detection and recovery or something else?
I have tried various drivers and my temps are under 70
my specs are,
windows 7 home premium
asus P8z77 pro MB
16g vengeance RAM
Evga supernova G2 750 watt PSU
Cooler master V8

It could just be something with the game and the particular driver you're running. I know in GTA V, no matter what I did when I went to win 10 I would crash about every half hour, same like that...it would freeze and I would still hear audio and it would lower my clocks way down to where I had to uninstall msi afterburner every single time and then reboot. Was a pain in the Azz.

Tried lowering my clocks way down...same thing. It did that with a couple other games too so I went back to 8.1 yesterday and played gta v for 2 hours with not one crash at my higher clock speeds. Sometimes it can just be driver related....some drivers run better with certain games.

WOW! Man i am bummed to hear this cause with my 780ti i had not experienced this.
I mean yeah the 780ti once in a while here and there i would get a game crash but with the 980 it is EVERY TIME i play these certain games.
I am using the 780ti right now so i can game without pulling my hair out.
I am sorry i bought the 980 now:(

Dayum...sorry man. I wouldn't think it would have that many problems though, especially if your 780 ti ran those fine...there's gotta be something that could be causing it. Maybe it's a bad card? I don't know if you get a lot of tdr's from a bad card though, I've been pretty lucky and haven't had to rma anything.

What specific games are they?

well it cant be the card since there are games that it plays fine?
it only does on select games like far cry 4 older call of duty
modern warfare 2 and 3 and it did it on a few others.

It may just be driver related, I think if it plays newer games fine it's something other than the card. I mean 780 ti came out in 2013...not that long ago but have you had your 780 ti since then? and have you tried going back to drivers from as far back as you can go with the 980? I know you tried different drivers, just throwin out a couple suggestions.

Farcry 4 is a mess anyways for nvidia...I have troubles with that game...the roads don't look right (draws the road as I'm going along) , I have to turn some things down just to get playable framerates at higher resolutions.

The 780ti plays far cry 4 no problem(i have been playing it for days now and have had no issues) and yes i have tried numerous drivers for the 980 but it still will play for a little bit then the screen goes black but with sound still going on in the game? and the only way to get it back is a reboot of the pc which is a pain!
My 780ti was bought a little over a year ago and the 980 is 1-1/2 months old.
I even tried the oldest driver they offered for the 980(1 year ago is their max)
what i may try is this,
http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
according to a lot of people when you change drivers it leaves leftover files like registry and other files
so a pure driver install may fix it? this utility wipes the old files and removes the driver.

No one is a 780 and the other is a 980 they are non compatible for SLI
I have a evga supernova G2 750 watt psu
it was rated 5 stars by guru3d and is known to be a outstanding PSU
besides IF it were the PSU all games would have the issue not just some?

yeah, I know its not sli, I've seen some people use 2 different cards one for graphics and one nvidia physX, just to offset some load from the primary card.

long story short your graphics driver crashes for some reason

Here is a update after using DDU uninstaller i can now play far cry for up to 2 hours before getting a black screen
so i know it is not the card at least.
Before it was happening after 3-4 mins of gaming.
