So I got a new cpu and it shows as unknown in bios setup screen.
My cpu is a phenom II x6 1055T 125w
My motherboard is a pegatron 2A99h (bios is compaq 505b I think?) Not to confuse with 2A99
Power supply is plenty,600w, GPU is GT730 and 2 ram sticks with a 1tb toshiba hard drive.
An experienced friend of mine said I would be good to go with the motherboard I have, even if it is old.
Is my cpu just straight unsupported or does my motherboard need an update or is it the bios that needs an update?
Is there any way to run the cpu with my motherboard?
Please help, I don't want to buy a new motherboard just because of this mess even if I could afford to get one

If you can find a bios update definitely try it. Unfortunately HP has a bad reputation for not updating their bioses to handle newer CPUs. Just because it is AM3 doesn't mean that it can handle any AM3 CPU. It will only work with what the OEM supports in their bios.
Also, your motherboard may not support 125w cpus regardless of the BIOS.

Thanks alot for the answer!
I gave up since I saw it doesn't say it supports 125w but it only supports athlon II x4 and bios updates failed
Bought a 960GM-VGS3 FX which is shipping right now, is it good? Everything is okay with stuff like cables and socket, just wondering if it's not complete crap?

Well I've read that it does support the 125w CPU but the performance might suffer?

Well thank you for the help
It's already shipping, I always were like this, get the thing first, research more later
