Is the Geforce GTX 960 still worth it?

Ok, so i'm building my first gaming pc and i would like to know if it is still a good GPU to play current level games. This would include games like bf4, gtav, cod, dying light, and so on.

Most people with your budget are buying up the last of the R9 290s for $240-$260 in that price range which is a higher tier GPU.

I have a GTX 960 2GB in an i5 4590 PC. The monitor is just 1680x1050 and it works beautifully at that resolution - maxes most of my games. Any resolution higher than that and you'll be turning down settings here and there. Its a good card, but you have to accept its limitations as mid-range.
