Hey Guys,

I have recently purchased myself an AMD X4 975 to replace my X3 720. I didnt want to upgrade my MB etc because I dont really game as much as I used to so didnt see the point.

I currently am running with 8GB RAM which is more than enough for what I am playing and a Radeon HD 6850.

I am looking to upgrade my GPU but I wanted an opinion on the best I can get without it Bottlenecking. (Looking at 660Ti or HD 7950 atm, but is there better??)

I am playing games atm such as Alien Iso, Evil Within, Fifa 15 and will look to move onto Witcher 3 and Battlefront when I am done.

I DO NOT want to overclock anything so that is out the window as my case aint huge and I cba to put a Hyper EVO cooler in it.

Also shall I upgrade my Coolermaster Extreme Power Plus 460W before installing anything new? I have not put my new CPU in yet as at max load with my current GPU it will be around 419W.

No.

A 660 is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade from a 6850.

Other way round bglvalk, your cpu is the limiter here.

The 960 is the limit of what your cpu can handle.

yes that power supply is not adequate.

toss in a gtx 960.

replace the power supply with a good 500w

tier 1 or 2 model:

just a quick mention, the gtx 660 is not on the same league as everything mentioned, it's about the same performance as your current 6850, choiches should be between 960, 7950 (which is the same as r9 280 / 380) depending on what you can got for a psu and your local prices

I thought the 660Ti was MUCH better than my 6850, according to benchmarks anyway. And surely a 960 would bottleneck my CPU massively?

No, that core of yours can handle up to R9 280x with some overclocking. For overclocking, you don't have to be afraid on how small your case is, all you need to worry is how good the motherboard, the PSU and the airflow+ CPU cooling.

As mentioned, I am not going to bother getting into overclocking. All I want is the games I play to run on High settings, maybe Ultra with little to no Bottleneck issues. My MB is a Gigabyte GA-MA770-US3 so its OLD now lol. So looks like its a 7950 then, or could I squeeze a 7970 without O/C CPU.

Already have upgraded BIOS to F7N which is highest, thats why i couldnt get a X6 1090T :(. I am aware my CPU is likely to be the issue, that is why I am assuming I cant go silly with the GPU as it will be too much compared to the CPU. Hence why I am thinking a 660Ti or 7950 will be best option as from what I can see on Game Debate none of the games I will be playing bottleneck, a 670 / HD 7970 or higher will.
