Faulty PC build (First Time)

Specs: Intel Pentium G3258
MSI H81M-E34
8GB Corsair Ram
600B EVGA PSU
When I set up a Test PC outside of the case, nothing happens. I tested with the Paperclip test for the PSU, and it worked. I replaced the MoBo with another of the same model. The same problems occurred. No power. Nothing. Should I buy a proper PSU tester or just replace it? Or is it another component. What should I do?

Solution

On the site they only list the cpus that are supported on since some specific BIOS version.
The board you have bought, might have older BIOS version. One which didn't have it included.

Just because the site lists it, doesn't mean the board you buy, will actually have the right BIOS version.

How does one update BIOS? Do you have to get it to function first?

Well, updating the BIOS can be a bit problematic.
It should be done by someone who already has done it before.

Installing itself is easy, it's the possible complications that can come if the installation goes wrong.
You need to get the BIOS file from the manufacturer's site, put it on flash drive, and then install the BIOS at boot-up.
I haven't done it myself either, so I have no further knowledge.

Easiest for you would be to swap to H97 mATX board.
MSI H97M-E35 is only about 10$ more and would surely work.

So you dont think the problem is the psu? Is the paperclip test reliable enough?

It's usually reliable enough. Most reliable test would be with tester/multimeter of course.

You could try swapping the PSU. But the BIOS is possibility too.

The CPU is listed as compatible on the website, but still needs BIOS update?

Ok, Thanks. I will get a psu tester and check it. If not, then I will purchase the suggested model.
