Hi,
I'm selling my Windows 8.1 PC. On the software side of things, what are the steps I have to take in order to prepare this PC for its new owner?

Thanks

EDIT: What about following the steps in this article (use the "Reset Your PC" feature)?

You should thoroughly clean all the privacy related things in your PC. If possible format and reinstall the OS and do a HDD free space wipe so that non of your personnel files can be recovered anyway, Ccleaner can do the job for drive shredding. If the new user is not so tech savvy you can help him by installing all the windows updates, latest drivers, antivirus etc so he can readily use his new PC comfortably with no headache to configure the PC

Create another administrator user, then log in with that user. Delete your old user's profile with selecting yes to delete all kinds of data.

This will remove any & all files under USER directory ( my pictures, games, documents etc) . Will remove registry and programs settings specific to that user. But NOT the programs themselves. ( Adobe reader will still be there )

But of course, if you have private data stored somewhere else like ( D:\Sexy Pictures of Me or C:\Corporate E-Mails etc. ) You have to delete these manually.

If you did not create yourself folders and used windows' file ordering , deleting your old user should suffice. If you are not sure about this , backup copy everything you needed from that computer and do a clean install like suggested before.
