shift key not working

i have tried everything on my laptop to make my shift key work. i am not able to understand the problem please help asap

Not much to go on there, given that you haven't stated much outside the basic problem. It could be a million things from user error (enabling capslock, sticky keys, etc) to hardware failure. Try plugging in an external keyboard and seeing if that works (especially if it has indicators for capslock).

i have a logitech wave keyboard, had a problem with my right shift key, it simply did not work, did nothing when pressed. The way i solved it was unplug the receiver from the laptop, reboot the laptop, plug the receiver back, and voila, it worked. hope it helps.
