I wish to host a game via LAN between my Desktop and laptop at home (1-2 machines more at times if some friends arrive). I played a few LAN games at my workplace, and all I do there is connect to their WiFi without having to play with any settings. There, multiple systems via Ethernet + WiFi are able to host/join a LAN game without any hassle.

I wish to host a game via LAN at home so that I could host/join it via PC + Laptop, have tried almost everything listed on the web but failed to accomplish the feat. Another thing that bothers me, and might be the bug in my case is, that my laptop is connected via WiFi with the router, and my desktop, is too far away from the modem due to which I cannot directly connect via an Ethernet cable and am bound to use the "USB Tethering" option via my android to give it access to the connection. What could possibly be the options and steps I could take to Host games on LAN and be able to join the hosted game via other machines at home? Using windows 10 64-bit on Laptop as well as desktop.

Tried hosting on Blur and Halo

"I cannot directly connect via an Ethernet cable and am bound to use the "USB Tethering""

Then the desktop and the laptop aren't on the same lan. Get a long ethernet cable, and run it to the router - just when you have these lan parties - problem solved.

Yeah that's right, the Ethernet is a must, but would it be possible if I could create a hotspot with my phone which the laptop could connect to while giving a parallel USB tethered connection to the desktop? I know this is wayyy too complicated and might be impossible, but, "if". It would take a couple of months before I could relocate the router due to, reasons.
