Hello, I have a couple of questions.

For reference this is my motherboard's specs http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/specs-0b40h-hp/ . The Manufacturer is Hewlett Packard and the product ID 0b40h.

I am thinking about putting an i7 in this computer to replace the i5-650 which is supported I believe according to the resource above. However, I need to know if I have to replace the motherboard in order to get a higher speed ram. Does this motherboard only support 1333 MHz and to get higher speeds I have to replace the motherboard? Also, would upgrading just the CPU be a bad choice because of bottle-necking?

My first intuition is that this motherboard is not meant for i7 CPU's because the Ram Speed is capped, am I wrong here?

Thanks!!

You can only upgrade the cpu to the cpu's in the support list on your link.

Higher frequency ram is not going to give you any noticeable gains. Even a brand new desktop there is only specific tasks where you would see more then single digit gains from high freq memory.

You cant just swap out the board anyways as the newer board is not going to fit into your laptop chassis and support your battery/ ac adapter.

What is the reason for the performance increase, what is your end goal?
The best upgrade you can make to that old laptop is add in an ssd drive; if you are trying to increase gaming performance nothing you do is going to make much of a difference.
