I recently bought a new pc which my mate has and he told me to get a graphics card and power source which ive done and ive been able to get that all set-up, we are both looking to upgrade our motherboard and/or cpu and we dont know what would be compatible or be able to fit into our case.

Cyberpower Artillery GT Desktop (AMD FX6300 3.5GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB SATA III HDD, No OS)

graphics card-
Sapphire Dual-X Radeon R9 270X OC 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Card with Boost

i am not to fussed on price, mainly looking for performance, any advice would be greatly appreciated

So do you have an amd 6300 now? I would get the 8350 as it will run games better and just get a good heat sink. what is your budget? That can depend on what GPU you can get, I would personally recommend a gtx 960/970!

something like this would give you the best performance if price really isn't a concern

CPU Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC14CS_BL 78.1 CFM CPU Cooler (£49.99 @ Scan.co.uk)

looks like the motherboard (and i am assuming the case as well) is micro atx. you'll want a CPU cooler of some kind, and the form factor of the case and motherboard probably won't allow a high performance dual tower cooler (it's too tall) so you'll want a shorter top-down style cooler. phanteks is high quality and i stuck with a blue theme to match the rest of the build.

if that is a bit too expensive, you can go cheaper without affecting performance much. something like an i5-4460 would keep that 270X running at it's full potential with a cheaper motherboard and no need for aftermarket cooler since you can't overclock it.

i'm a bit curious as to why you think you need a new CPU/Motherboard. doesn't the 6300 keep your GPU running at max most of the time?

the problem we have at the moment is that some things dont work as we would like, some games dont really work at the best of their potential because of the cpu. Would you have any AMD cpu's to recommend aswell? thanks for taking time to reply though

are you sure it's your CPU that is the source of the issues? can you give an example please? and also, most games rely on per core performance, therefore, a bigger AMD isn't going to help much since all it does is add more cores. i would say find a better motherboard and cpu cooler that will fit in your case and overclock the cpu as high as possible. again, it could be that the 270X just isn't performing as well as you'd hoped, it's not exactly a top tier card (though still very capable).

sometimes in games it lags for no reason regardless of what graphics quality i have it in, i also wanted to upgrade the cpu to play games like witcher 3 on recommended settings as now im only on minimum, would you recommend any other graphics card that would be good quality
