when running MSI R9 390 on a 850W viotek power supply a 760GMA-P34(FX) motherboard AMD fx6300 @ stock 3.5 my CPU AND GPU heat up horribly useing a R9 390 i can run csgo or light loads with no problem but as soon as i ramp it up a bit with like GTA V it heats up my whole everything REAL BAD 155F when i shut it down... when i use my R7 250 no issues with gta and heating my temps stay arround 97F... but also i can not get the CPU to overclock past 4.0 with out starting to feel like im stressing heat a bit too much for long time use at 4.0 i heat to 117F when (useing r7 250) if i go to 4.1 it maxs out what i feel to be safe 130F.... i have 5 case fans 3 for output 2 on top 1 in back and then i use 2 for input both in the front of the case.... i have heard of people running dafely at 4.3-4.5 safely with the same types of fan set up??? so is my issue my PSU or my Motherboard or what? im kinda lost...?...???...? Thanks guys for any help....

Solution
Well, I've honestly never heard of that PSU. So I can't say if it is good or not. Although I think the latter of the two. It sounds like you just don't have good airflow and adequate cooling for your components. AMD chips and GPUs get very hot and require high end air cooling or even water cooling. Also, make sure you PC is not in a confined space. Btw, make that rear fan an intake and it will help keep dust out of the case. This in turn helps with cooling and maintenance. If you are using stock fans for the case, then you need to swap those out with better fans. Noctua fans are always a good choice.

if i were to run a OC test with my case open and a AC blowing right on it from 2 feet away do you think if it still heated up the not enough airflow would be debunked as not the cause.... and thankx for the reply to the ? :)

Yes, it would be debunked. However, if that is the case then you need to make sure that you have all of the fans going the correct direction, the CPU cooler is seated properly, and you might want to swap PSUs. I've had a friend that had "heating" issues due to a low voltage problem coming from the PSU. Once she swapped it out, it was fixed.

What case? What are you using to cool the processor?
155F is about 68C, which is great on that card. Anything under 80C is fine, under 90C is safe. (176 and 194F respectively). So your GPU is not overheating.
54C on the 6300 is not overheating either, anything under 62C is fine.

Nothing is overheating.

Oh, damn I feel dumb. Sorry, I automatically read those temps as C and not F. Makes a world of difference. In that case I agree with Gam3r01. Sorry.

if the psu is unknown, i would not really suggest using it on OC'ing.
2nd, if you are having thermal issues, overclocking will just make things worst.
my suggestion, fix the thermal issues first, then oc if you want to.

improve your cooling, do some cable management

that is my CPU temp :( not GPU

Okay, so for simplicity lets use Celsius as that's what most PC builders rely on. A processor or CPU is not going to be in trouble until it's hitting about the 80'C mark. For GPUs or video cards, the temps can get upwards of 95'C+ before you start seeing problems. If you have a CPU hovering at about the 60-70'C range then that if perfectly fine and actually about average for the coolers you are using.

i had used my BIOs to check the temp after restarting... and yes it was my CPU reaching 155F and the GPU was very hot to the touch on the portplate... when i run my outher GPU no issue arises until i want to start to OC.... DOSE anyone know if a crappy motherboard would cause my issue ??? i know that my GPU recomends 750W and my CPU 95W maybe i dont have enough wattage? i belive no matter how much i try to cool the CPU it will want to really heat up anyways.....

After running a housefan over my system with the case open i have determined that my case is getting nowhere near enough airflow also my CPU cooler is very insufficiant ecspecially when sitting next to a gpu that is running at 58C in great airflow conditions if this heat is not moved extremely well it gets really saturateing outher components i will defiantly not be doing any OC on my cpu unless i can get rid of the heat in my case like now fast THANKS FOR THE GREAT HELP GUYS it saved me from alot of stressing and wasteing of money on a MOBO or PSU that wasnt needed at all.... you guys who responded are super f#&@%* awesome i cant even express how thankful i am of the help :) :) :) :) :)
