So, I just bought an SSD, (Samsung 850Evo 120gb)

I assume that you just mount it with a 3.5inch to 2.5 inch, power it and plug in sata.
Will windows automatically see it and be able to use it?
Or do I have do go into the bios and look for it.

Thanks in advance! :)

Solution
You still want AHCI on.

The only thing you do not want to do is to add the SSD to the boot order, since it is not going to be bootable.
You have the mounting part right.

When you have got the SSD mounted into the case, power up, and go into the BIOS. Find the setting that will let you enable AHCI. This is something the SSD needs, and that other storage devices will work fine with as well. Once that is set to enabled, make sure the BIOS sees the new SSD, and if you plan on making it the boot drive, change the Boot Order to reflect that. You can make it the number 1 Boot drive now if you want. Windows will look at it, see its not bootable, and move on. Save and Exit the BIOS, and treat it just like a hard drive after that.

After the SSD is formatted, the SSD comes with a program named Magician. Go into that and it has a section where it will optimize some settings in Windows for use with the SSD. It only takes a second to do. It also has a benchmark thing, and you can check for new a BIOS and a few other things. Its a pretty nice program.

I checked my case, doesn't an ssd mounting spot.

I bought the best selling adapter on amazon though.

If you are not going to make the SSD a bootable drive, just skip the part about adding it to the Boot Order in the BIOS. Everything else will just happen automatically.

You will want to open up Disk Management, and format the new SSD from there in this case. Just be 100% sure you are formatting the SSD and not your hard drive... They will both be shown in Disk Management. Its not rocket science. Just pay attention to what you are doing, and things will be fine.

So I don't need to enable AHCI?
