Too much hardware reserved RAM and idle usage.

I have 2x4GB sticks of Gskill 1600mhz RAM and they do not seem to be working properly. They use around 3.5 GB of RAM while idling and over 1 GB of it is hardware reserved. I have tried taking each stick out and making sure they are both working properly. I have run stress tests and diagnostics to make sure my RAM is working properly. Does anyone know something I can try?

Are you using an integrated video card? If you have a dedicated card make sure the integrated video is disabled in the bios.

I have a dedicated card and an i5 4670k. I didn't see any options in the BIOS to turn off integrated graphics.

It's in the peripherals section of the uefi bios. Check page 53 of the manual for more information.

I turned it off and now have 800 mb used. Thanks for the help, but is there anyway to get that number down lower?

Is max memory checked in msconfig? If so unchecked it and restart.
