so I have this pc spec:

PC SPEC: CPU: i5 4690k
MOBO: MSI GAMING 7 Z97
MEMORY: 24 GB DDR @ 1600Mhz
GPU : GIGABYTE GTX TITAN X 12GB - OVERCLOCKED
HDD1: 240 FURY X SSD
HDD2: 1 TB WESTERN DIGITAL
PSU: 1000W 80%_ BRONZE BE QUIET FULLY MODULAR
MONITOR: 24" IIYAMA PROLITE 144Hz @ 1080p

This will sound very noobish so bare with me :)

I was under the impression that I would not have any screen tearing but I do get some stuttering / lag in games lik e, GTA V, skyrim and a few others. I do get 80++ fps in gta v with ultra options but as I'm driving thorugh the city I get a tear across the screen . Is it that I need a "g sync" or "free sync" monitor to fix this? I get over 80 fps with vsync on or off. any ideas? thanks

Solution
G Sync...I get screen tearing above or below refresh, even using adaptive vsync with my benq non G sync monitor. G sync will match your refresh rate on the monitor to the output fps from GPU so you get no screen tearing at all, no matter what frames you're at as long as you are below the refresh rate. Make sure you get 144Hz G sync though, because 60 hz with gsync wont help your situation or mine.

I'm waiting for the Acer 1440P 34" ultrawide 144hz G sync coming out soon. Freesync wont work with NVidia so make sure do G sync.

What is the specific brand of the psu. The screen tearing could also be a driver issue try reinstalling Nvidia drivers. Also you do realize if you overclocked a 980 ti you would get better performance at 1080p and higher resolutions Food for thought. If it still persists yeah i guess g-sync would be your best bet. Do also is their an option for buffering, go tipple if you want the least ammount of screen tear.

the monitor is Iiyama ProLite GB2488HSU Gaming Monitor

and the psu is Be Quiet Power Zone 1000W Fully Modular 80+ Bronze Power Supply
•Black Coloured PSU with a 135mm Silent Cooling Fan
•Equipped with a Single 12v Rail Delivering upto 83 Amps
•Equipped with 6 PCI-E Connectors for Graphics .

I got a very good deal on the titan x, tI was £600 here in the uk on a daily deal. 980ti's rangde from £500 - £650 so I got quite a good deal really!

deal's relative yeah 600 euro is cheap for a titan, but when a 980 ti can overclock to a point where it out performs the reference titan x easily, not so much. Maybe water cooling would be different. But i have my doubts.

Still, 600 euro's is stupidly cheap for a titan x? Where'd you get the deal at?
