Hi guys,

Hoping for some help with my friend's issue. I sold my MSI GTX 970 to him that I had owned for 10 months. It worked absolutely fine. Before he came I used it one last time to uninstall my nvidia drivers and then packaged it up.

My friend took the gpu home, connected and booted up. It loaded into windows fine, then he installed the nvidia drivers and after rebooting he experienced no signal issue. The gpu's msi logo light was lit and the fans spun as they should. He says that it seems to boot to windows fine, but there is no video signal.

He thought maybe there might be driver conflict between new and old gpu so he reinstalled windows 10 pro with his amd r9 270 card, then inserted the gtx970 card, installed drivers and again same problem. So he moved the gpu into another pci slot and this time there was video signal, but there were no bios messages, it just booted straight to windows. So now it's working. But when he reboots again there is the no signal issue. Again he changes the pci slot and again it would boot. That worked for a few times, but now it's again no signal issue all the time (msi logo lit and fans spin as normal though).

Sometimes when he turned the pc on with the 970 connected, the boot led device was steady red. Other times it wasn't. He has also checked if secure boot is enabled as we read some gpus require secure boot to be disabled. This was disabled anyway. He cleared the cmos, jumper, etc to default bios settings. same problem.

The above tests were performed on the following spec:
- Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 motherboard
- cpu fx 8350
- 8 GB RAm 1866 mhz Kingston hyper x ddr3
- Enermax 550 w 87+ Gold

Next he changed the mobo to a Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z. No video signal at all on this. Next he tried the gpu in his friend's MSI 990FXA GAMING. No video signal again, but msi logo is lit and the fans spin as normal (spin for 15-20 seconds before they turn off due to zero frozr feature).

My mb is a gigabyte z87 d3hp and it worked fine. Although I haven't tried it in there since he took it from me.

So... what could the problem be??

Many thanks

I will try the card in my PC tonight and we'll see. The only thing I can think of is that I predominantly used HDMI (7 months) and then displayport cable (3 months). I hardly used DVI, which my friend used in his attempts. But we shall see.

Issue has been resolved. I tried the card in my pc again and it worked fine. So friend went back home and tinkered with his bios. Seems his bios had an option for pci/pce. Default setting was on pce, he changed to pci and viola! Please select this as answer for resolution.
