Thr R9 290 is better. It's just less expensive because it's one generation older i think but that doesnt matter since the 380 is a rebrand anyway.
Go for the R9 290 and you're good. :)

What migronesian said* is fully correct, it's cheaper because it's one older gen. The 300 series is just a rebrand for the 200 series, a marketing trick from AMD...they might be a little better at power consumption or cooling, but they still have AMD's insane amount of power consumption and heating levels.

So yes, go with the R9 290.
