Hello.
Firstly, i know there has been a gazillion of topics about lenovo Y50-70(and sorry for making one more) and there are mixed reviews, but I decided to buy the model because it's the best I can get on my current budget(this model(specs bellow) with discount is 1000€ so I believe it's pretty good) for studying/multitasking/gaming. I just have to hope the sshd wont crash in a year or so because as I understand sshd being faulty/slow is by far the biggest problem with this model.(Is it really THAT bad?)
So my question is, will I be able to replace the sshd to let 's say any 500gb ssd later on?And what are my
options?
I know it might be a stupid question, but I came upon some topics that said the model has limited ssd upgrading possibilities.

Thank you in advance.

The current model i m buying (as i understand it's from lenovo upgraded series of 2015) has specifications as follows:
Lenovo Y50-70
Intel core i7-4720HQ
Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M 4GB
UHD IPS (3840 x 2160)
8GB RAM
1TB+8GB SSHD
Win 8.1

Hey there, senaura.

I've stumbled upon threads where people mention that they've replaced the SSHD with a 500GB SSD, so it seems like its safe to say that you could get at least a 500GB one. If you want to find out if it would support a larger capacity SSD, I'd recommend that you contact the laptop manufacturer's customer support and ask about that. As for the SSHD, I'm sorry, but I can't really comment a lot on that. It's like with a normal HDD - it can run without a hitch for years, but if you have the pretty bad luck of getting a faulty one, it could fail in a few days as well. Generally I think a 1TB HDD part with a 8GB SSD part for caching is a good option for this laptop model.

FYI, if the laptop has an OD (optical drive), you can replace it with an SSD/HDD caddy and add a second SSD or HDD to the laptop.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your quick answers!
No, unfortunately this laptop model sacrifises Optical drive in favor to slimness of the laptop( I guess).
Basically people are saying that lenovo inserted WD (WesternDesign¿) manufactured sshd which, they say, is no good and might be even slower than other brand hdd and sometimes people have to send back laptops during the first week/month of the purchase because the hard drive failed, (they notice slow typing, hd usage being shown as 100% whike doing nothing and eventually hd just stops working). Well I hope it won't cause too much trouble. And if i happen to get faulty one, it will show during warranty period.

You are most welcome. :)
Well if they are WD SSHDs indeed, then they must be the WD Blue SSHD model. You can check out its features here: WD Blue SSHD. From what I've noticed so far since those drives have been released, they are generally well accepted. Of course there's always the slight possibility of something going wrong (as with every drive there is on the market, no matter the brand), but that's what the warranty period is for. Hopefully you don't have any issues with it at all.
Just remember to always have a backup of your most valuable and irreplaceable data. This is a piece of advice that's always viable. :)

Cheers!
