I'm currently "planning" an upgrade to my PC, and already decided on going with skylake and an Asus motherboard like usual, however I'm wondering for gaming which one of the Asus motherboards I should get, and the main differences between them.

I'm most likely not going into heavy overclocking, aside from maybe Ocing my CPU.

Solution
Let's see Hero has *SATA vs 4, 2 SATA express vs 1, an extra USB 3 header, better CODEC, better Ethernet chip, better power phase design 10 vs the Pro's 8, (and better components)...may be other, but those I think are the highlights

Yea I know, but my question remains, what are the main differences with the PRO series that could peak my interest into spending around 80€ more for the Hero?

I just built my son a new Skylake rig last week

Asus Maximus Gene Z VIII Micro ATX
i5 6600K
Hyper 212 EVO Heatsink/Fan
G. Skill DDR4 2X8 16Gb 2400MHz
EVGA GTX 980 FTW 4Gb
Samsung 850 Pro 256Gb
Seagate Barracuda 2Tb Sata III HDD
Rosewill 1000W 80 Plus Gold Modular

immediately after building and connecting cloned drive, ran 3DMark and Unigine benchmarks.......numbers were insane.

We had the original case, power supply, optical drive, and I gave him one of my two GTX 980 FTWs. The other I did the Nvidia step up program for a 980 Ti. So we bought ROG Gene Z VIII $229 , i5 6600k $249, 16Gb G-Skill Ripjaw 4 DDR4 $114, Hyper 212 EVO heatsink and cooler fan $30, Samsung 850 Pro 256Gb $139, so a total of about $760-765 for parts.
