Testing for Heat Damage to CPU

Two days ago, I noticed that the package temperature of my Intel Core i7-4770k was reaching above 100 degrees. I immediately stopped the PC and began checking the cooler. I showed it to my friend who is very knowledgeable about CPU's and he told me it was either the cooler itself or the thermal paste. I am unsure of how long the CPU has been running hot like this. I never overclocked the CPU. Because of this, I decided to order a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo. Meanwhile, I contacted Intel support about this, and they said that if my CPU had problems, I could return it to them and they would exchange it. The only problem is that I would have to wait more than 12 days for the replacement. I will be able to install the new cooler later today. Is there any way to tell whether the CPU is functioning to it's specifications or if it's damaged?

Thanks in advance!

Solution
When the CPU gets hotter than it likes to be it throttles back and slows down to cool off a bit, so it's protecting itself. It's unlikely that it's damaged. Intel has a diagnostic tool you can run. I've used it to check mine. Includes thermal test. Use the installer (3rd link)
