Why is 'System' using so much memory?

I can basically do nothing because every application I have open stops responding and I open up task manager to see that System is using 80% of my 8gb of ram. Ever since updating to windows 10 systematic things like this have been happening. I checked with malwarebytes and there are no detected threats just windows being windows. Also windows host process (Rundll32) is using about 15% of memory so I have 5% to do everything else.

Yeah, just upgrading can leave your whole system in shambles and causes a lot of issues. I would back up anything you want to save to an external hard drive. Completely format your PC hard drive, and do a clean install of windows 10.

Do a clean install. You will need to get a Windows disk or a flash drive with Windows ISO and boot your computer from it. When you are going through the installation process, Format the hard drive, and then proceed to install Windows.
