Sata Hard Drive and a Sata DVD/CD-rom installation

When installing the drives, does the SATA Hard Drive have to be on same power connector line as the SATA DVD/CD ROM?
I want to install them in a FOX CONN model M61PMV.
I am building the pc for one of my great nieces(10 years old).
will install Win Xp pro SP3 program.

It can be separate power or the same power cable, with each having their own connector. It doesn't matter.

On a side note, since it is for your 10 year old niece I would recommend going past XP or Vista since XP is no longer supported and more vulnerable to malware attacks. 7 Would be the minimum OS I would do.
