Does this seem like a bad idea? (Using electrical tape to reduce coil whine)

Was searching all around the net for ideas to fix coil whine, and this guy's seem to be my favorite:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=396658

What he ended up doing is covering the chokes, resistors, an capacitors in electrical tape and he said his coil whine was reduced by 90%.

What I'm asking if that seems dangerous to my card, however he does mention that it "isn't corrosive to metals and, when cured, can be peeled off."

Please note: I am aware that changing the voltage/overclocking the GPU/changing the PSU works for some people to get rid of it as well however that's not what I'm asking. (It doesn't work for all of us obviously :3)

Solution
I am the guy who did this
FookDat on guru3d.

Letting everyone know, I have not had 1 single issue with the liquid electrical tape, and still runs, 10c cooler than at default, plus card does not get dirty at all..

Been year. not 1 single random reboot, blue screen or graphics glitch in game... I have it running right now at
MSI R9-280x 3GB
1200/1800

Overclocking does not do great with Warframe or Battlefield but I pass all benchmarks with no issues.

Are either (Hot glue/electrical tape) dangerous to the card? (I'm not concerned about voiding warranty)

Why do you see it as iffy? (Not disagreeing, just curious). And by "the stuff" do you mean any of those options (glue, parrafin, tape)

1. How would wrapping something in tape stop anything from vibrating ? Did you read the link describing the factory application ?

Ever leave ya phone on a wooden or metal desk ... on vibrate ? Do ya think taping it down to the desk would change that ?

You have a coil of wire, wrapped around a core, vibrating ... how do you isolate / encapsulate each wire ?

2. Stuff = glue gun / paraffin

1. You have a point there. However the OP from the guru3d.com forum did say it helped his coil whine go down by at least 90%.

2. So you think the tape will melt (sorry LOL)?

His noise was likely generated by the coil vibrating against the PCB and putting tape between the coil and PCB would be like putting tape between the coil and the desk. As I said, and as the link said:

Unless something is very wrong, an inductor should have very little resistance, and consequently should consume relatively little real power. Which means not much heat to deal with.

With "not much heat", melting is not a concern.

Thanks a ton bud! Fortunately I never actually experienced a coil whine problem with this card, even though countless people reported the problem with this same model in reviews. What's funny is mine runs even hotter than theirs probably (it goes up to about 80°C, I hope that's ok?) because it's in a compact Mini-ITX build. But I love the card and if for some reason I do experience coil whine problems (let's pray I don't lol) then I'll keep your solution in mind I was happy I found it :)

Remember its LIQUID ELECTRICAL TAPE! it will reduce temps increase your cards life. It wont hurt. Just clean it with isoprpyl alc n silk cloth then glob it on. It drys fast when exposed to air. Dont try be perfect, just cover it. But NOT the GPU connections! Or ram chips.

Sorryon backside of my graphics card i covered it but not where heat sinks touch on front for ram n gpu. Everything else is covered. I had pics but got taken down. Stupid free pic upload site!. Please message me with questions!

I hold no liability ;)
