Problems with MSI R9 280X

Hello, I recently built a PC, and I have a really annoying problem with the graphics card, an MSI R9 280X.
Everything that needs gpu hardware acceleration stops working and crashes the gpu driver.
If I play a youtube video, the driver crashes, even a normal windows media player video, everything freezes for a sec and crashes the driver.
Also, in windows 8.1 the settings panel has the text really messed up and in games, I tried Battlefield 4 and Just Cause 2, the level's textures are messed up in the distance, but I can see my weapon and the ground and it all works in 60 FPS at least on ultra in both games.
I tried all amd drivers for this GPU, from the latest 15.7.1 to 14.9 with no success on Windows 7 windows 8.1 and windows 10, the same problem persists everywhere.
And when I disable the GPU and use the onboard graphics all those problems are gone.
I really do not know if this is a software problem or if the gpu is broken.
All my specs are:
Asus Sabertoth 990FX R 2.0 motherboard
AMD FX 8350 CPU
8 GB of ram DDR3 1600 Mhz
MSI R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 GPU
120 GB ssd from kingstone
Zalman ZM600-GSII PSU

Do you guys know any way to fix this? Or if it is a hardware problem if I should give the card back. Thank you!

  1. I'm leaning towards software issue. Have you tried the beta drivers yet? When you were swapping between driver versions, were you making sure you removed all the old driver software by using an app to sweep and clean up any left over files? Try booting into safe mode and try unistalling the drivers (all of gpu drivers) with the help of an app, reboot, and then install the beta drivers.

Yeah I always made sure to unnistall everything. OK so I did that again, unnistalled everything in safe mode rebooted, installed the 15.6 beta driver..and its the same story.

This is how the pc looks like:
  3. You said you tried Windows 7, 8 and 10, did you do fresh installs of the operating systems on this computer?

Yes, I completely wiped the ssd then installed Windows, every time
  5. That leads me to believe its a hardware issue, not software. How old is the GPU and can you return it/RMA?

I don't really know I bought it yesterday from a hardware store, I told them the problem above and they said they will give me a new one if it is indeed broken.

Since you've done everything from drivers to OS it leads me to believe hardware.

Ok, thanks a lot for the help!
  9. Probably won't help, but try reseating the GPU making sure its installed correctly and the additional power cables are hooked up to the GPU.
