I'm using an ASROCK N68C-GS4 FX motherboard. Its specs may be seen here:
http://
The motherboard advertises two DDR2 slots and two DDR3 slots (you have to choose whether you want to go with DDR2, or the DDR3, but you can't use both).
I'm using an AMD Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition CPU. AMD advertised that this socket AM2+ CPU "also features an integrated DDR2/DDR3 SDRAM memory controller."
This motherboard / CPU combo worked just fine with DDR2 ram. I have removed the DDR2 Ram completely, and put in a single 8GB DDR3-1600 stick of Ram into one of the DDR3 slots. And it is not working.
-----------------------------
So here is the problem
When I remove the DDR3 and plug in the DDR2, the system starts up fine. When I remove the DDR2 and plug in the DDR3, the system will not start up.
Could the problem be with my CPU? But why would the problem be the CPU if the CPU has both DDR2 as well as DDR3 SDRAM memory controllers?
The Motherboard specs said this:
"AM2 and AM2+ CPUs can support only DDR2 memory."
But, obviously, that's not true because AMD advertised that the Phenom X4 black edition (an AM2+ CPU) "also features an integrated DDR2/DDR3 SDRAM memory controller"
Any other ideas on why the DDR3 ram doesn't work with this CPU / Motherboard set up?
-----------------
NOTE: no. . . I'm not trying to use DDR3 and DDR2 at the same time.
Thank you for any insight you can offer!
