Hello.

Going to try make this short and simple. So basically a couple of days ago I wanted to get on my pc after coming back from vacation and after turning it on it said that its "Configuring Windows update" then after 30 minutes it said "Failure configuring windows update" and it got into a loop as it repeated 3 times. I found out my family member used my PC and when switched it "Off" it started updating then that person woken up and realised the PC was still running and updated so that person switched it off whilst the update was running. That possibly lead to my Windows being possibly corrupted. This is the file that couldn't be repaired "C:\WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt" I have attempted every possible option even to find a restore point. Unfortunatly I never thought of making a restore point EVER on my HP Desktop PC. I even tried a command through "Command Prompt" I found called Chkdsk and once it reached stage 2 of its long proccess it gave me an error. So the only option now is to RE Install windows 8. However I am wondering if it is possible to avoid losing important pictures and videos? I bought a bunch of CD's 4.7GB and I wish to throw the pictures and videos on those CD's and IF i could store the pictures and videos on the CD I could do a factory restart on my PC?

So please help me! Is it possible to have these pictures and videos go on the CD's? And if it is possible please tell me how.

The easiest way is to take your hard drive out and put it in another PC - then you can retrieve the info.

If that isn't an option, you can download a bootable ISO of Ubuntu (or other Linux distro) and backup the files that way.

Windows does have an option to "keep your current files..", and that should work, but if the information is important - I would do the backup first....

Once I turn it on it loads for like 10 seconds before going into a constant black screen.

I thrown Ubuntu on the Disk but when I went into the start up process I chose the CD to be ontop but nothing. I'll try it again. But I guess that'll be the most effective way.

I think what you'd need to do as mentioned is go for a re-install, using the 'upgrade' option instead of 'clean install'. Upgrading will save all your files (under the 'windows.old' directory) so that you can pull what you need off of it.

I've done this before when I had to go from 32bit Win7 to 64bit Win7 and I had no problems with my files after the upgrade.

The problem is I am unable to even log on to do so. When I press the ON button on my PC it shows the HP logo loading and after around 10 seconds it goes into a constant black screen. Only things I can do is if I press F8 before the logo screen pops up or the F2 button.
