Gaming-> mostly NO benefit
Video editing/rendering-> up to a 50% time savings
It totally depends on your settings as many edit/render settings don't use more than a few threads. Programs like Handbrake for example under basic settings scale up almost perfectly but enable certain features and you lose most or all the benefits of the extra cores.
It really depends how important the time savings is to you. A THREE hour project for example, may complete now in TWO hours (best case) or maybe you only save 15 minutes. It's going to vary a lot.
Having said that, if you decide extra processing is important you may wish a newer CPU/motherboard combo.
