After installing a stronger power supply my computer can't detect an input signal.

So I recently upgraded from a cx600m power supply to a cx750. I did this mainly because my graphics card, a radeon R9 280 specifically asked for it on the packaging. So I was running my pc for about 6 months on my 600. A couple days a go I changed out my power supply and for some reason my pc had no input signal. Eventually I found out if I unplug my pci-e cords and leave my graphics card in the motherboard my computer can detect a signal and start up. The card itself has a 6 pin and an 8 pin attached to it. So I plugged in one of the 6 pin pci e cords on the battery to the graphics card and the other 6 pin pci e cord with a 2 pin prong to match the 8 pin card. So for some reason when I start it up there is no signal. Is my graphics card dead? Or is it the pci e cords? Should I revert back to my last psu? Also here is a link to the graphics card I'm using, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150705&nm_mc=KNC-MSNSearch&cm_mmc=KNC-MSNSearch-_-pla-_-Video+Cards+-+AMD/ATI-_-14150705.

I'm using an HDMI cord that's connected to my monitor and my motherboard. My graphics card doesn't have an HDMI cord. Also, when I plug in the 8 prong adapter it also seems to work fine. I should mention I messed up my last cable that plugged directly into the card, but I'm not sure what the name of the cable is. It looks like a micro usb of some sort but almost completely square. So it was HDMI to whatever that direct plug in was. If I could find that it could solve my problem.

Thank you so much! It turns out that piece was hidden by a gray plastic piece to protect it, after some prying it came off and works perfectly. I never knew the graphics card had to be connected to the monitor but that makes a lot of sense now. Learned something very useful, thanks so much again!
