Possible Hard drive malfunction?

Hello, I'm new to this forum so I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this question or if this is the right format.

My problem is my laptop was dropped about 2 feet yesterday and immediately after turning it on everything has been insanely sluggish. I can get away with super light browsing but as soon as I introduce something slightly more intensive such as streaming video or running a heavier program (League of Legends is one example) my computer won't open them. And the file explorerer appears to restart after freezing for a short while. Now I don't think this is software as I've run multiple virus scans (taking a long time given the sluggish performance) I suspect it may be the hard drive but I don't know a great deal about what's under the hood so any advice would be appreciated.

I did open it up and my RAM isnt loose, nothing was unconnected and broken from what I could tell.

My specs are:

Model: Lenovo Y40
Resolution: 14" (1920x1080)
CPU: i7-4510u 2.0ghz
GPU: AMD R9 275M

Solution
Run Check Disk on it, and see if any bad sectors are found. Check Disk can also utilize spare sectors to replace bad sectors if you run it as an administrator.

A dislodged CPU cooler will do this. With no real cooling, the CPU gets hot pretty quickly, cold boot or no.

And checking the BIOS for temp should help diagnose it? I'm at work unable to check for another 2 hours so I'll update as soon as possible though. If it's not cpu could it be hard drive ?
