I don't have access to an wrist band, therefore im going to simply need a suggestion on what i should do instead, i will be building an a wooden (oak) table, which does have carpet, should i take my socks off? what should i do, please give a fully explained suggestion on what i should do, thanks :)

Solution
well, you do not really need "constant" contact with the case. all you need to do is touch it (i usually do this with both hands) and then work on the part you want to install. think of touching the case as discharging any charge you might have built up.
while it is suggested to not do it on carpet, you certainly can. i would assemble it on the bare wood counter, perhaps with a towel under the case to prevent scratching.

grounding is not an issue - most of us just touch the computer case (the metal outside of it) before touching any components and proceed to touch the case before we touch anything important as a safety measure. a grounding strap really is optional.

obvious things like do not wear fleece, shuffle your feet on the carpet or do anything which could generate static electricity apply of course.

wearing shoes is fine, i always do. i stand on a carpeted floor as well since that is what the room has.

One more thing, when people say touch the bare metal case, i'm pretty sure the whole case is painted, wont that affect this method?

ah so im taking it; painted or not, if i have constant contact with metal on the case, i'll be fine right?

So you know how you get static shocks? You touch something once then get shocked? Touching the case ones discharges your static buildup, if any, and then you'll liekly be repeatedly touching the case throughout the building process.
Just don't wear socks, touch the case before touching the other parts, and you'll be fine.

I built like 5 computers sitting naked on the computer, and the case was on the carpet too usually.

Avoid "Ooo what this?" type touching where you go in single finger after not touching anything else.

They're all painted, it still conducts electricity, or grounds you, whatever.
