See this link: http://www.alancomputech.com/ibm-39u3424-lto4-fh-68p-scsi-loader-tape-drive-00v7334-00v7334.html

Will this work directly connected to an HBA card on a PC? Or is this a special version that will only work with a tape library, autoloader, etc? I don't have any experience with tape drives. I don't know what is meant by "loader". Do you think I would have any trouble using this just a single drive connected directly to my computer? Thank you for any help. I cannot find anything specific to this drive on the Internet.

While I can't answer your specific questions, I have a few observations.

This is the "generic family" of drives the one you are considering comes from. http://www.cpuinc.com/tape-drive-systems/lto-tape-drives/lto-4-tape-drives/

I find it really suspicious that even using the model code on the barcode of that drive one cannot find an IBM reference for the drive.

If the HBM supports 68-pin SCSI interface, then you should be able to mechanically attach it. I suspect drivers will be *nix only for your purposes.

Thank you, Karsten75.

I emailed the sellers I've found that sell this to see if they know if it works as a stand alone drive. Do you know of any other forums for tape drive discussion? I've had a lot of trouble finding much tape drive discussion.
