Hey guys, I have an issue with my western digital blue 1tb hdd, it isn't showing up! When I installed the driver for my Samsung 850 evo 250gb ssd (the driver is called Samsung Magician), I opened it up and it said that I did have a hard drive. Help me please, I don't want to put everything on my hdd.

My mobo is the asus z97-a 3.1, 5 way optimization.

Solution

Maybe the misunderstanding is on my side. The hdd is brand new? Then you need to goto disk management (enter that in the Start / searchbox), right click on the "unallocated space" bar of the hdd graphics and create a partition
Actually you don't need a driver for the SSD. Samsung Magician is a tool that upgrades the firmware and tells you something about the SSD, but it's not a driver. Do you see the hdd in device management? Did it ever work this way or did oyu install the SSD recently and don't see the HDD since then?

I think he just needs to partition the drive.

Hey there, Dollas4Eva_SR.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your drive. It sounds like your OS is on your SSD, did you migrated/cloned it from the HDD or was it a fresh install? Does your HDD has an OS on it? As @noidea_77 mentioned, you should check Disk Management and what it says about the HDD there (it would be nice if you could post a screenshot of it). You could try it with a different computer, just so that you could see if it's properly recognized and backup any personal data you may have on it, so that you're on the safe side. Basically there are quite different approaches to this issue depending on your answers to our questions, so please keep us posted.

Think of your storage devices as a road or highway. There is lots of roadway available, but without signposts to show where you are, you would get lost very quickly. Formatting the drive puts the signposts on the roadway so that your computer can find its way to where data you will be writing to the device goes, and later to be able to get back to it so you can use it.

Every time you buy a new SSD or hard drive, you need to format it after you connect it to your system. After that, you can use it to store things on it like you have been doing with your old one.

Thanks noidea, I created new volume (I have windows 10, it was called volume instead of partition maybe). I went through the setup wizard and left most of the stuff on default settings as I created the new drive.
