Hi! This is my first time attempting to custom build a PC. I've been a mac user for years so I'm a little nooby at this sort of stuff. I'm trying to switch to windows, so I have a lot of questions about all the aspects of building a PC!

Firstly, is this a little overkill for light to moderate gaming? I feel like it is, looks very expensive from other builds I've seen. And people have told me it's way too much.

Secondly, would there be any ways to cut down on prices? (good components but cheaper, removing the SSD? etc.). The overall total isn't exactly what I'd like pay D:

I'm just going to say why I believe I should buy these parts, feel free to say otherwise!

  • CPU - decent price and nothing too expensive (I think?)
MoBo - looked cheap and good reviews.
RAM - cheap and should do the job, good reviews.
HDD - great reviews and cheap.
SSD - good reviews, cheap, and I read that programs on an SSD run faster.
GPU - don't need anything too extreme, should do the job.
Case - my friend has one and it comes with fans, looks cool.
PSU - cheap, more than enough power.
Optical Drive - eh, should do the job :D
OS - my friend gave me a free copy of Windows 7 Pro (I dis
Monitor - good reviews, like the specs.
Keyboard - I love the feel of the clicky switches :D.
Mouse - just a classic mouse
Headphones - cheap, has a microphone, all I need.

Lastly, are these parts able to work well together? I've heard that if I don't want my games to stutter, all of my parts need to be about equal in performance.

So yeah, I think that's the main questions I need answered!
Thank you very much to anyone who tries to help me :D it really means a lot!!

Thanks,

Ventrix :)

For "light moderate gaming" the below would be better. I also cut back on places you were overspending. In the end, this should perform better as well since it has a stronger GPU, and games care far more about how strong your GPU is compared to how strong your CPU is, and this CPU is still strong, and actually somewhat faster at most tasks than that i5, but it's slower if you're trying to do things like edit videos.
All cases come with fans, you're just overspending on the one you chose.
