Ive decided on buying a msi r9 280x but i only have (99% sure) 500w power supply from awd-it, it was installed with my pc i bought from them but i cant seem to find the exact one i bought from them. I found the same one but in red and that had a 500w power supply.

*MAIN POINT* - Im on a round about £50 maybe £60 good power supply for the msi r9 280x, i the dimensions of my case is 468x206x447mm. Im not very good with computer so i was hoping u guys could help me out :)
***UPDATE*** Just run a power supply calculator and it came up with 534w so id assume i need atleast 550w ish?

If there is no label on your power supply showing the brand name and model number, then it is most likely what is known as a junk power supply. Those are also called a unknown device that is shaped like a power supply. These things are sold not to be a good power supply, but to make money for the companies that make and use them. They are almost always s fire hazard.

On the flip side of things, most companies that make quality power supplies will proudly put their name, and the specs of what their their power supply can deliver for you on them. For example, I recommended a Seasonic S12II 520 watt power supply in an earlier post. On the side of that...
I found this:

So a power supply of 450 watts would be enough. But I always like to have some spare capacity because running a power supply at or near full load is never a good thing.

So I am going to recommend a Seasonic 520 watt power supply. Click on that link, and it will take you to pcpartspicker.com, and show you that Newegg is selling it for $54.99 with a $5 discount, so $49.99. If you decide to buy that, just click on the buy button there, and it will happen.

I have a 500w power supply, i just checked. Will that be enough for it? If not then i will get the seasonic one, my proccessor is a a8-6600k and my graphics are just the integrated ones. I heard somewhere that the watts also depends on how much the other parts on your pc use. 500, 520 watts, same thing amirite? no? ok

Uhh... Talk to me like im a complete idiot who knows nothing about this stuff.

Post a picture of the label that is on side of your current 500W the power supply unit.

My guess is that it is a CiT brand 500W with insufficient +12V rail capacity and insufficient number and types of PCI Express supplementary power connectors for the new graphics card.

Absolutely no doubt who made this unit, and how much power is provided on each power rail the computer needs, nor about what specs and safety protection circuits are included. The one thing that is not on that label is that the unit comes with a 5 year warranty as well.

In light of the fact that you seem to have an unknown brand of power supply now, I would highly recommend that you get a high quality power supply like the one I listed here...

Will the msi r9 280x last a while? i.e can handle the heavy duty games that are coming out - ark survival evolved, the witcher e.t.c, in the end if u were me, what would u choose?
