Single Thread or Multi-Thread

Building my Dad a new home PC. Need the CPU/MB combo to come in at about $300 or less. I'm Considering the i5-4590 with the Asus Z97 MB or the AMD A10-7850K. Most of his computing is Quicken, Family Tree and other database type applications and Web browsing based. Machine will have 16gb or memory.

Is a single thread or the Mult-thread better for this use. He does want good graphics for photos and video, but will be using the on-board video of the MBs.

Would a 650 PS be enough for these processors or should I be thinking more of a 750 or 850?

System needs to be reliable and Stable !!!!!

What is your overall system budget? Let's start there. I personally would not use an AMD APU because their processor power just will not match the Intel i5 on any level. A better option would be to go with a mid range Intel i5 like the 4460 and then invest in a mid range GPU like the GTX 950. That will be a better overall investment.
